5A Molecular Sieve
5A molecular sieve is the calcium-exchanged form of zeolite type A. Its 5 Å pore opening admits normal paraffins and excludes iso-paraffins and aromatics, which is the basis of paraffin separation. It is also used for PSA hydrogen purification and CO2 removal.

Typical applications
Paraffin Separation
Normal paraffins are adsorbed, iso-paraffins and aromatics are excluded.
PSA Hydrogen
Purification of hydrogen streams by removing CO, CO2 and moisture.
Gas Drying
Air, natural gas and process streams where 5 Å access is acceptable.
Packing
25 kg carton or paper-plastic composite bag with moisture-barrier liner; 130–150 kg sealed steel drum; 750–1,000 kg big bag.
Minimum order 1,000 kg per grade. Private-label packing and documents in the buyer’s name are available for distributors.

How this grade ships
Frequently asked questions
How does 5A separate normal from iso paraffins?
The 5 Å opening admits the straight-chain molecule but excludes the branched one, so the normal paraffin is retained on the bed while the iso-paraffin passes through.
Is 5A used for oxygen generation?
Calcium-type A sieve was used in early PSA oxygen plants, but lithium-exchanged LSX now gives higher nitrogen capacity. See Li-LSX for oxygen service.
What is the minimum order and packing?
1,000 kg per grade, in 25 kg cartons or bags, 130–150 kg steel drums or 750–1,000 kg big bags.
Where this grade is used
- Natural gas dehydration — used where sulphur compounds and larger molecules have to be handled alongside water
- Industrial drying — drying duties that need a 5 Å pore for larger molecules
